I was born in the early 1970’s with a severe case of Lamellar Ichthyosis, meaning 100% of my skin is affected and it peels all over. Because I’m allergic to lanolin, many topical treatments most Ichthyosis patients can and do use are not available to me. This makes bathing one of the only avenues I have to exfoliate my skin. That used to mean spending hours in the bathtub scrubbing myself. The longer I soaked, the softer the scales got and the easier they were to scrub off. By easier, I mean scrubbing hard all over and doing it multiple times if I were to get as much of the dead skin off as possible. It was not a painless process by any means as the severity of my Ichthyosis does make my skin pressure sensitive. It also wasn’t possible to get all the scaling off. Something that produces Nanobubbles makes exfoliation much more thorough. It also makes it painless as I need only use my hands to rub my skin. I no longer have to use coarse materials (for example, a loofah) to exfoliate. Those loofahs and similar exfoliating products weren’t pain free, either. Not having to use them is a huge relief. I’ve had the good fortune of being able to use two different products that produce Nanobubbles in the bath, both the Jason Microsilk tub and the Whitewater Company’s Portable Nanobubbler. I have found the Portable Nanobubbler is the best product for multiple reasons. First off, it’s portable. I had to move and leave behind my special bathtub that produced Nanobubbles. It was very disenchanting to have to go back to the old method of exfoliating! Next, because the Portable Nanobubbler produces smaller Nanobubbles and a much larger amount of those bubbles, it exfoliates me more efficiently and thoroughly than the tub did. I don’t have to run as many cycles to fully exfoliate as I did with the Microsilk tub. Not having to spend hours in the bathtub is a novel experience and I enjoy that quite a bit! The Portable Nanobubbler also doesn’t heat up the water like the bathtub does. When I was using the tub and having to run multiple cycles to fully exfoliate, the water would continue to heat up as I ran the cycle and it was possible to become overheated. Ichthyosis can interfere with or stop body temperature regulation, meaning we can’t sweat. Because of this, we overheat easily. Having something you need to use to manage your skin aggravating one of the difficulties with your skin is frustrating and counterproductive if you have to stop and get out of the water. While the bathtubs that produce Nanobubbles are less expensive, they do require specific bathroom setups, specifically needing an access panel and a heavy duty electrical outlet. Bathroom remodels can be incredibly expensive and cost far more than the Nanobubbler, which uses a standard outlet. The last and in some ways most important reason I like the Portable Nanobubbler is because it’s not fixed in place. The Microsilk tub was the first bubbler I used and I lost access to it because I had to relocate. That was a heavy blow to my skin care regime. As I was unaware of the Portable Nanobubbler until a short time ago, I’d not realized I could have had access to something so beneficial for my skin long while I was still a renter, and it would be something I could take with me when I had to move. I think this is very important for families with affected children. Children grow up and move out and will be able to take the Portable Nanobubbler with them. I wish I had known about the Whitewater Co. years prior so I could have bought the better product first.
